UK babysitters on strike

The vast majority of complaints from members of the public regarding the public sector strikes are:- we can’t work because the teachers are striking and there is no one to look after our kids.
When did teachers become the babysitters to a nation? When did the UK economy suddenly depend on teachers to look after our kids?
If you can’t look after your kids, don’t have them.
