New York City to host this year’s Miss Tibet Pageant

The 16th edition of the Miss Tibet Pageant will be held in New York City,
according to the proprietor Lobsang Wangyal.

“I am happy to announce that Miss Tibet Pageant 2018 will be held in New
York City. We have partnered with Engage Entertainment, who will be
producing and directing the Pageant in June 2018,” said a post on the
Pageant’s website.

Wangyal announced during the finale night of the last year’s pageant in
June that he would hand over the production to a new owner. Due to no
buyers, he has partnered with Engage Entertainment for a year.

Engage Entertainment is a well-established entertainment and media
company for the last 13 years in India, and has now expanded to New York
in partnership with Sonam Wangdue and Lalit Bhatnagar.

Sonam Wangdue is a well-known New-York-based Tibetan comedian and
entertainer, and his partner Lalit has a background in events management.

The organisers are inviting applications from Tibetan women who fulfil
certain criteria to participate in the Pageant. The last date to apply is 31 March. The criteria include: Must have CTA tax paid up to date; age between 17 and 25 years; minimum 165 cm in height; and unmarried and not having given birth.

The much-awaited annual show has been organised in McLeod Ganj for the
last 15 years. On four occasions there was only one woman showing up
for the Pageant. The last Pageant in June 2017 saw the largest number of contestants with nine women.

“We are looking forward to a spectacular show as we move from the small
Himalayan village in McLeod Ganj to one of the world’s most cosmopolitan
cities,” Wangyal said.
