Lha Charitable Trust celebrates 20 years of social service

LHA Charitable Trust celebrated its 20th founding anniversary with a modest ceremony at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.

The Director Ngawang Rabgyal gave an introduction of the organisation
before the chief guest Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile Khenpo
Sonam Tenphel, a host of other dignitaries, and an audience of a few hundred.

Neil Guidry, the President of the Louisiana Himalaya Association (LHA), which he co-founded in 1997, was honoured at the ceremony. LHA was the mother organisation from which Lha Charitable Trust was originated.

Lha provides a wide range of social services to impoverished and underprivileged Tibetan refugees, local Indians, and other people from the Himalayan region.

It helps with multi-levelled social and educational services including: Language and computer classes, health facilities, environment awareness events, cultural exchange programmes, publication of a community newspaper called Contact Magazine, and a community soup kitchen.

In addition, Lha offers volunteers and students the opportunity to engage in meaningful community service and social work.
